Nautical Inspired Cottage

Recently, I spotted this Nautical Inspired Cottage on the One Kings Lane blog and thought I just have to share.
It is full to the brim of coastal vintage style goodness & nautical vignettes.
Located on the East Coast of USA in Montauk, it is rented by photographer and Mate Galley owner Matt Albaiani.
To me this holiday place would be the perfect cottage to enjoy by the sea in all seasons.

A wonderful entry way with an old tree stump, an anchor mat and
a brass lantern that gives hints to the nautical charm to be found within.

An American East Coast seaside home isn't complete without a string of old lobster pot
buoys adding a pop of colour against the exterior's weathered shingles.

I have to say the painting of the captain is a favourite.  You can almost picture the old guy sitting in the chair below smoking his pipe surrounded by beautiful nostalgic items of days gone by.

A fabulous gallery wall in the stairway. All the vintage items seem mismatched but they work so beautifully don't they? It creates a space of uniqueness and individuality that tell stories. And that is what I adore about this place.

Isn't this an amazing collection of T&G Green Cornishware?
This bedroom is a favourite. Light & airy with a few favourite vintage pieces.
Having rented this place for 6-years, Matt quotes: I've learned that it's really about what you surround yourself with, not necessarily the house per se, that makes a place special. He added that it doesn't take much effort to make a space feel like your own. You need a good eye, but it's not that hard to make your mark with smaller, impermanent touches.
He also said good vintage is getting harder and harder to find. The craft and care that old things were made with is an important thing to have in a home. They just make it feel special.

Matt, I agree. So true.
Which room do you like best?

I'd have to say I can see myself sitting in this sunroom by the window in the lovely spacious rattan chairs with Shibori cushions & with the shark keeping a watchful eye to remind me of the movie Jaws!  I'd sit there drinking a big mug of hot chocolate with a nip of rum watching the world go by & admiring all the lovely quirky nautical pieces that fill this home. And perhaps with the host too! Maybe one day. Stranger things have happened!

Until next time,

lover of the sea and all things coastal vintage,

Sally x
